Frankfurt’s Climathon: Putting the Sustainable Development Goals into action
The Climate-KIC Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change event which will take place simultaneously in major cities around the world on 28 October 2016.
In Frankfurt the Climate-KIC Climathon will begin on the morning of the 28 October CET and finish on the following day. It is organised by Climate-KIC in cooperation with the City of Frankfurt (Energy Council) and Labl (Consultancy for SMEs and Sustainability) to create new solutions to implement the sustainable development goals for the city of Frankfurt.
Putting the SDGs into action – How can Frankfurt’s citizens and SMEs contribute to find local solutions?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), officially known as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, are an intergovernmental set goals to launched by the UN. The 17 Goals cover a broad range of sustainable development issues. These included ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, making cities more sustainable, combating climate change, and protecting oceans and forests. In Frankfurt, the focus will be on the goals combating climate change, sustainable cities and sustainable businesses.
How can we locally translate those abstract concepts into action? Concrete action-pathways and project ideas will be developed in the course of the Programme, with focus on the 3 above mentioned goals.
Pitching to expert judges
The Climathon event will culminate in presentation of each group’s idea in front of panel members who will provide valuable feedback. The panel is comprised of different science and business experts.
Climate-KIC is the EU’s largest public private partnership addressing climate change through innovation to build a zero carbon economy. We address climate change across four priority themes: urban areas, land use, production systems and decision metrics and finance. Education is at the heart of these themes to inspire and empower the next generation of climate leaders.
Climate-KIC is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.
