HPLC is an analytical technique which is used extensively around the world for many of our agriculture and healthcare tests. Due to their complexity and prohibitive costs they are only found in centralised laboratories which means it is expensive and it often takes weeks for test results to come back after a visit the doctor or the sending of a soil sample. Instant results would mean less carbon-emitting travel and a reduction in the over-fertilisation of crops, decreasing negative environmental impact.
