The EIT Regional Innovation Scheme accelerates climate innovation across Europe. EIT RIS facilitates connections into our established innovation hubs, now in 14 countries in the centre, east and south of Europe, securing EIT Climate-KIC’s pan-European reach, boosting climate innovation capacity across the continent.

The EIT Climate KIC Croatia Hub was established in June 2018 and is now composed of North-West Croatia Regional Energy Agency REGEA, University of Zagreb (University Technology Transfer Office and Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering), Terra Hub, Zelena energetska zadruga (Green Energy Cooperative, ZEZ) and Mreža znanja d.o.o.

The Croatian Hub consortium members share a vision of being recognised as trusted partners that have the ability to catalyse communities with its sustainable actions, to mainstream the green economy and a place to go for cities and municipalities that help lead and deliver the Croatian Green Deal programme.

The consortium aims to promote and set up a strong network of system-changers and to catalyse actions leading to a systemic change, a deep transformation of the way we work, live, learn and think by involving all layers of society. We all need to change with the climate. We all need to work together – to collaborate, to co-create, to experiment and learn how to use all the knowledge we have fragmented across sectors and themes – together. The Croatian Hub coordination lays with REGEA team while the citizen outreach is with Terra Hub and ZEZ.

So how it works, this setting up a system-changers ecosystem? In Croatia we are doing it through several EIT Climate-KIC programmes and interlinked innovation projects:

The EIT Climate-KIC cleantech start-up accelerator programme is a part of MedClimAccelerator lead by Impact Hub Prague and Impact Hub Zagreb as the local partner in Croatia. In the previous two years, a total of 13 start-ups went through the accelerator programme, of which two have been included in the Success Stories booklet – Ascalia and Miret! More about the new cycle is at the link.

The Pioneers into Practice in Croatia is managed by the Regional Energy Agency with two generations of professionals so far who are getting irreversibly weaved into the European climate innovation network of professionals, partners and actors. Check the alumna story here and find out more at the link.

The pool of irreversibly infected system innovators is getting bigger as well with the alumni of Journey summer school or through Climathon held three years in a row in Croatian cities of Zagreb, Rijeka, Varaždin and Križevci.

Finally, there is a range of EIT Climate-KIC supported projects focusing on working with cities and activating citizens and local communities for the transformation towards a climate-neutral future. Check out the EIT-supported actions in the Future City Križevci; on post-COVID regeneration with solar power at 1000 Solar Roofs and On a Sunny Side platform, and find out about the transformation of energy agencies into energy and climate agencies within the framework of Transform4Climate.

Follow us and join us, be a climate-gamechanger, let’s build our future together!
