The Central Hungary Region has a core position in Hungary in geographic, economic and cultural sense. The Region consists of Budapest and Pest County, which surrounds the Capital.  It has three million inhabitants, nearly two thirds of whom live in Budapest.  Around half of the national GDP is produced in the region. The region is characterized by its central position and by the dominance of the Capital and its agglomeration.

The region is characterised by good infrastructure and it hosts the head offices of one third of all registered companies, including the majority of foreign-owned enterprises. Budapest concentrates branches of production with high added value, like electronics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals,  food, and printing etc. industry. Pest County is more related to traditional types of industry as oil refinement, production of electronic machinery and tools, food processing and textile industry.
