8 new start-ups join the fourth Amazon Sustainability Accelerator, supported by Climate KIC

Press Releases 22 May 2025

Eight start-ups have been selected for the 2025 edition of the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator, an initiative designed to help new businesses with innovative products create a more sustainable future.

As part of this 10-week bespoke programme, the new cohort will benefit from an equity-free grant, expert-led workshops and specialised mentorship to help the founders navigate the challenges of scaling a sustainable business.

In addition, Climate KIC will guide entrepreneurs in calculating their businesses’ climate impact potential. The comprehensive assessment will measure, monitor and forecast the emissions reduction potential of their solutions compared to similar products on the market.

“Our goal is to catalyse a new generation of businesses that make a significant contribution to reducing and removing emissions, to helping us achieve climate resilience and to affordable, healthy living within planetary boundaries,” explains Dr. Kirsten Dunlop, Chief Executive Officer of Climate KIC.

The programme concludes with a high-profile Demo Day in London, where the selected start-ups pitch their solutions to a curated audience of investors, industry leaders, and sustainability experts. This event marks a key milestone in the start-up journey, offering founders a platform to showcase their progress and accelerate their growth post-Accelerator.

Meet the 2025 cohort

The eight start-ups participating in this year’s accelerator are tackling issues ranging from circular economy to ethical working conditions. Participants include:

1. AuraSkin (Greece): AuraSkin upcycles spent coffee grounds into skincare products such as lip balms, face creams and sunscreens, offering a practical and circular solution to industry waste. By helping cafés transform used grounds into skincare items, AuraSkin reduces environmental impact and generates new value from existing resources.

2. Bantu Chocolate (UK): Bantu Chocolate is reimagining the cocoa supply chain with a focus on fairness, sustainability and regenerative agriculture. Beyond offering ethically produced, all-natural chocolate, Bantu plants thousands of trees, including banana, plantain and avocado, to enrich biodiversity and nourish the soil. Their holistic, vertically integrated model ensures traceability and transparency from farm to shelf.

3. Composty (UK): Composty aims to tackle microplastic pollution and climate change caused by conventional cleaning tools by producing durable, plastic-free alternatives. Their sponges and cloths maintain cleaning effectiveness while naturally breaking down after their useful life.

4. Grace & Green (UK): Grace & Green, the highest-scoring B Corp globally in organic period care, offers a range of certified organic and reusable menstrual products. All of their products are made with organic materials free from harmful chemicals, toxins, and artificial dyes. From prioritising reusable designs and innovative materials to carbon-neutral operations and biodegradable packaging, they are committed to reducing the environmental footprint of period care without compromising comfort or quality.

5. Horée (France): Horée is pioneering fresh cosmetics based on organic fruit and vegetable ingredients dependent on the seasons. The French company produces 100% vegan and plastic-free beauty products, made with ingredients found in nature and free from artificial content. Their plastic-free containers are returnable at no cost, and their cold production methods support their zero-waste production philosophy.

6. Hygge (Italy): Hygge offers high-quality pet food and snacks. The Italian company sources nutritious ingredients from local supply chains to guarantee health, taste and safety. Their philosophy is based on using quality raw ingredients and reducing environmental impact. Their entire product line is packaged in paper and produced in plants powered by renewable energy sources, reflecting their commitment to sustainability in every step of the process.

7. KWERKY (UK): KWERKY has developed an additive-free powdered milk alternative made from oats and peas. According to its lifecycle analysis, the British start-up’s production process results in lower carbon emissions than traditional dairy and oat milk. With 82% of ingredients sourced from Europe, their concentrated powder format also avoids water weight during transportation.

8. Omuu Pet (Ireland): Founded by a veterinary surgeon, Omuu Pet develops innovative pet products based on nutritional science and clinical trials. The Irish company incorporates novel protein sources, including insect-based ingredients that require just a fraction of the land, water, and emissions to produce compared to conventional animal proteins. Their evidence-based approach aims to produce products that optimise pet health while addressing resource efficiency.

Continued success of the accelerator

Since its launch in 2022, Climate KIC has been involved in developing and expanding the Amazon Sustainability Accelerator, which has supported more than 50 start-ups across the UK and EU to scale their businesses with impact in mind. Collectively, these start-ups have the potential to mitigate over 20 million megatonnes of CO2 equivalent over 10 years.
