Climate app among DigiEduHack 2020 global finalists
The DigiEduHack, supported by Climate KIC as well as EIT Food, EIT Health, EIT InnoEnergy, EIT Manufacturing, EIT RawMaterials and EIT Urban Mobility, is a series of global ideathons focused on co-creating the future of education. The 12 finalists for the 2020 edition have been announced, with a climate app, Greenability, among them. A public vote is now open on the United Nations voting platform, Unite Ideas, to select the three winners, with a pitching session taking place on 18 March, 2021.
The three winners will be awarded €5,000 each for further development of their solutions.
The finalist solution aimed at mitigating climate change is Greenability, an environmental education app that seeks to address the lack of environmental education in primary and secondary schools. It enables users to explore the city of Amsterdam (with other cities coming soon) via augmented reality, make choices and see the direct impact of those choices on the environment.
Several of the other finalist solutions focused on how to facilitate remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as digital labs, emotionally-sensitive education via speech-recognition software, lesson video viewings with peers, virtual geological exploration field trips and more.
