CBA18 Conference – Innovative approaches to climate adaptation

LOCATION
Arusha, Tanzania
DATE
6-9 May 2024

EIT Climate-KIC is participating in the 18th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA18) in Arusha, Tanzania. The CBA18 Conference serves as a dedicated platform for practitioners, policymakers, and grassroots representatives to explore innovative approaches to climate adaptation, aiming to foster climate resilience. EIT Climate-KIC is hosting two sessions during the CBA18.

On May 8, Joanna Sabat, Community Manager and Ayoub Derdabi, Senior Manager Adaptation Programmes at EIT Climate-KIC, will be co-hosting a session focused on catalysing business and private sector investments to support climate adaptation. This session, held in partnership with IIED and Care Ethiopia, will explore the barriers to private sector investment in local climate action and discuss potential solutions to overcome them. The goal is to identify ways in which businesses and the private sector can work together to drive local climate initiatives and create a more sustainable future.

On 9 May, the session “Innovative Pathways: Local Solutions for Community Resilience” will spotlight community empowerment. Focused on locally-led innovation in climate adaptation, the session will showcase global organisations and local champions’ work, as supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Adaptation Fund (AF), and EIT Climate-KIC.

Henriëtte de Wit, Communications Manager and Inès Mas de la Peňa from at EIT Climate-KIC will present our Adaptation Innovation Cluster initiative to boost climate resilience in Tanzania’s rural communities through collaboration and innovation. This initiative employs three key strategies. First, it brings together stakeholders from various sectors – such as businesses, universities, entrepreneurs, investors, government agencies, and NGOs – to drive climate adaptation through workshops and events that encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing. Second, it creates an enabling environment that promotes climate solutions across the country, stimulates green entrepreneurship, and supports the growth of locally-led climate solutions with programmes like ClimAccelerator and Climathon, in partnership with local organizations. Finally, it aims to empower and amplify the voices of young leaders uniquely positioned to drive impactful and innovative initiatives addressing pressing climate challenges.
