The Challenge
Entrepreneurs, innovators, students, designers and others are invited to team-up and spend 24 hours together to find innovative solutions to reduce Belgrade’s carbon footprint. These solutions can include areas such as measurement of CO2 emissions, improved public transport, energy-efficient buildings, alternative fuels and mobile energy sources, low-carbon electricity supply, strategic urban planning and many others. Bring your ideas, bring yourself and let’s get creative together!
The Climate COP21 in Paris last year has paved the road to combat worldwide climate change. Cities are important players in this scenario, since they produce 70% of the world’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and house more than 50% of the world’s population. The success of the Paris Agreement will ultimately depend on changes made on a local level.
Each person produces a certain amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases every day, directly or indirectly, that are emitted into the atmosphere. These emissions are a result of driving your car, heating your house in winter, cooling your house in summer, flying to your holiday destination, throwing away your waste, and many others. The overall amount of these emissions, expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide, describe your carbon footprint. Carbon footprints can be measured on a variety of levels: per person, per household, per company, per city, per country, etc..
If every city in the world minimizes their carbon footprint, it would have a massive impact on worldwide greenhouse gas emissions and consequently slow down global warming.
Pitching to expert judges
The Climathon event will culminate in presentation of each group’s idea in front of panel members who will provide valuable feedback. The panel is comprised of different science and business experts.
