Community CONNECT: Reimagining Climate Adaptation

In the past edition of Community Connect, we discussed the need for a renewed climate leadership as a necessary ingredient to build a just, climate resilient future.

However, we cannot ignore that the climate crisis is already disproportionally striking communities and territories worldwide. Therefore, for this new edition, we’re focusing on another crucial element of the transition: inclusive climate adaptation.

There seems to be two global contrasting tendencies in climate adaptation now. On the one hand, we have local communities advocating for bottom-up solutions that emerge from their local reality and needs; these solutions also happen to be severely underfunded. On the other hand, large donors and institutions are predominantly financing standard adaptation solutions that have rigid criteria; in these cases, local populations’ involvement in decision-making is often little to none.

Regions, cities, and communities worldwide are demanding a shift in financial relations, asking for additional room for innovation, testing and learning. The key to guaranteeing a safer future for everyone in the current climate crisis is to craft adaptation plans and solutions that take into account the voices of the people that live and thrive in those territories.

How can regions and cities collaborate with businesses and local communities to create and implement a climate adaptation plan? What are successful examples of inclusive adaptation on the ground?

Join us for an interactive session as we uncover the transformative potential of inclusive climate adaptation journeys. Explore with us existing methodologies and case studies, and learn how we can foster resilience and adaptation through innovation and inclusivity.
