3rd European Climate Change Adaptation Conference: Our Climate Ready Future

DATE
05 Jun 2017

Join Climate-KIC at the 3rd European Climate Change Adaptation Conference in Glasgow on 5-7 June 2017

Climate change presents a wide range of serious risks, but also offers the opportunity to drive forward innovative adaptation actions. Vulnerability can be reduced by building strong, equitable, resilient societies, protecting natural capital and deploying cost-effective nature-based solutions. Well-designed climate adaptation actions can have wider benefits for health, economy and biodiversity, and can even have synergies with climate mitigation. ECCA 2017 will explore these opportunities and help to move them from theory to practice.

ECCA 2017

ECCA 2017 will build upon the achievements of ECCA 2013 in Hamburg and ECCA 2015 in Copenhagen, which emphasised research-policy-practice links and the emerging adaptation services offered by businesses. We aim to engage strongly with the people who will deliver action on the ground: local authorities, government departments and agencies, businesses, industry, NGOs and local communities. We will also showcase adaptation in action, with a focus on how this is transforming the lives of our people and communities.

Climate-KIC at ECCA 2017

Climate-KIC’s CEO, Kirsten Dunlop, will be joining a panel session to discuss ‘Opportunities for Climate Readiness: market demand & finance on 6 June at 4pm during the ECCA Business Day programme.

Innovation Day

The ECCA Innovation Day is open to all. It provides an opportunity to connect start-up businesses, SMEs, entrepreneurs, local authorities, civil society, researchers, students and others.

The Innovation Day will run in parallel to other conference sessions and will take place on the Innovation Stage in the Exhibition Hall.

As part of the Innovation Day, Climate-KIC and Innovate UK will be hosting the pitching competition for the Glasgow Climate Resilience Innovation Challenges competition.

Challenge 1: Innovative solutions to help Glasgow reduce its flood risk that can be retrofitted to commercial or residential properties

Challenge 2: Innovative ways to engage stakeholders and communities to act to address Glasgow’s climate resilience and environmental challenges

Start-ups, established companies, researchers, entrepreneurs and community groups are all invited to submit solutions to help Glasgow City Council address their future climate adaptation and flood risk challenges.

Participation in the challenge offers the following opportunities to participants:

  • This challenge presents a rare opportunity to engage with Glasgow City Council and the MGSDP to develop innovative and scalable solutions to its resilience challenge.
  • The winning ideas will receive awards of up to £20k to further develop their innovation solutions, with the potential for these to be deployed in Glasgow and by MGSDP partners.
  • Those involved with the shortlisted ideas will be invited to participate in the Innovation Day of the European Climate Change Adaptation conference on the 7th June (http://ecca2017. eu/). This will be the Challenge finals and a chance to pitch your solution to a selection panel and to a conference audience.
  • In addition to the chance of winning the challenge, there is the potential to showcase your company, research or innovation to audiences that will include funding agencies
