Towards a Zero Carbon Economy Beyond 2030. Sustainable Urban Centres

Climate-KIC, and  Paragon Europe  are organizing a conference around green urban centres, circular economy and green finance. The focus will be on low carbon mobility concepts, the operation of smart grids, energy neutral buildings, the promotion of efficient water management and improvement of public and green spaces that assist in creating a world’s first zero carbon economy solution in the Mediterranean by 2030.

The event will be held on 29 May in Malta on the eve of Green Week 2017 and under the Auspices of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and hosted by the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change of Malta.

As the key outcome, Mediterranean countries and member states of the European Union would declare their support to the “Valletta Declaration on a Mediterranean Zero Carbon Economy by 2030“.

Smart Sustainable Districts (SSD)

The Smart Sustainable Districts is a Climate-KIC programme that works closely with highly ambitious districts across Europe to identify innovative solutions to their sustainability and climate change challenges.

The conference will showcase the key deliverables achieved so far on SSD in the Mediterranean and will culminate with the award of the cities selected for the SDD Flagship Programme.
