Wageningen UR

The Wageningen University & Research Centre is a collaboration between Wageningen University and the DLO foundation.

“To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life” is the mission of Wageningen UR (University & Research centre). A staff of 6,500 and 10,000 students from over 100 countries work everywhere around the world in the domain of healthy food and living environment for governments and the business community-at-large.

The strength of Wageningen UR lies in its ability to join the forces of specialised research institutes and Wageningen University. It also lies in the combined efforts of the various fields of natural and social sciences. This union of expertise leads to scientific breakthroughs that can quickly be put into practice and be incorporated into education. This is the Wageningen Approach.

Wageningen University focuses on the theme ‘healthy food and living environment’, consisting of three core fields:

  1. Society and Well-being
  2. Food, Feed and Bio-based Production
  3. Natural Resources and Living Environment

The University encourages the development of spin-offs and collaboration with industrial partners, which valorise the acquired knowledge on the market.

The Wageningen Research Institutes are commissioned by the government, commercial businesses and non-profit organizations. Eight research themes encompass the entire portfolio:

  • Sustainable food and non-food production
  • Global food and nutrition security
  • Metropolitan solutions
  • Bio-based and circular economy
  • Healthy and safe food for healthy lives
  • System earth management
  • Big data technologies and Methodologies
  • Social innovation for value creation
