SUPSI was created in 1997 and is one of the nine universities of applied sciences recognised by the Swiss Confederation. It offers more than 30 undergraduate and master courses, characterised by cutting edge education which unites classical theoretical-scientific instruction with a professional orientation. SUPSI’s fields of activities in research and education span across different disciplines, from architecture, design, engineering and information and communication technologies, to economics, social work and healthcare, and even to theatre, music and arts.
SUPSI’s primary role is to support the development of society by education, applied research and high-level technology transfer. Researchers at SUPSI are highly active in exploring innovative solutions to global and local challenges that can generate a transformative impact at the systems level. They design and manage multi-stakeholder processes, aimed at co-creating and validating innovative solutions through experimental testbeds and pilot activities in real-life contexts, often adopting living lab and user-centred methodologies. Through these activities, SUPSI researchers have developed expertise in the areas that catalyse the transformation towards a post-carbon society.
