#TurnItAround: an event for all climate solutions seekers, suppliers and enablers

As part of the fifth SDG Global festival of Action, and under the topic #TurnItAround for climate action, the UNFCCC is hosting multi-stakeholder dialogues with leading initiatives and climate solution providers, including EIT Climate-KIC.

This Friday 26 March at 14.00 CET, EIT Climate-KIC Chief Executive Officer Kirsten Dunlop will participate in a session focusing on expanding the space of innovation for climate. The workshop is open for registrations here.

According to science, to meet the Paris Agreement goal and limit global temperature rise to 1.5C, countries must cut global emissions by 45 per cent by 2030 from 2010 levels. A recent UNFCCC report however shows that climate plans submitted so far by countries nowhere near meet the levels of climate ambition needed.

There is an urgent need for us to find ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our existing products, value-chains and systems, but also to look for alternative approaches that will satisfy the world’s core needs within the emissions boundaries set by science.

This ideation session will explore systemic approaches to innovation that could enable and expedite transformative climate action, while helping countries meet Paris Agreement goals.

The workshop will help define what needs-driven climate solutions look like. There will be an opportunity to share possibilities and ideas on how to bridge supply and demand for transformative climate solutions. The panel will also address the need for a collaborative effort in tackling all dimensions of innovation for climate.

Delivering systemic innovation

This kind of collaboration is a fundamental part of EIT Climate-KIC’s Deep Demonstrations concept.

Deep Demonstrations target clusters of enabling entities like policy makers, financiers and technology providers, who together can deliver on potential systemic solutions like integrated 1.5 °C Low-Energy Demand compatible solutions, policy innovation, financial instruments and technology. As a panellist, Dr. Kirsten Dunlop will discuss the ways in which Deep Demonstrations and EIT Climate-KIC’s portfolio approach can facilitate the coming together of many different actors in the private and public sphere, act as a vehicle for systemic innovation and facilitate effective clusters and collaborations that will help drive the systemic innovation for climate that we need.

Other session speakers and contributors include Amanda Eichel, Executive Director for the Global Covenant of Mayors or Climate and Energy, the Head of Secretariat for Mission Innovation  Jennie Dodson, and the Director of UNIDO, Tareq Emtairah.

Climate action must come from the whole spectrum of civil society and this session is designed for everyone, especially within the SDG Community.
