EIT Climate-KIC to work with Google on Impact Challenge

EIT Climate-KIC is delighted to announce that it will be partnering with Google on its Impact Challenge on Climate.

As part of Google’s updated climate commitments the tech giant has committed €10M to fund ideas that use technology to accelerate Europe’s progress towards a greener, more resilient future. This week Google also announced its ambitious aim to run its operations solely on carbon-free energy by 2030, and pledged to work with governments, utilities, and policymakers to drive system-level change.

As a European Knowledge and Innovation Community that brings together hundreds of partners from business, academia, and the public and non-profit sectors, EIT Climate-KIC is well-placed to draw out the best and most transformational ideas Europe has to offer. With over ten years’ experience tapping into technology and innovation to build resilience and work towards systems change, the organisation is uniquely positioned to work with Google on this call.

“By committing to be carbon free by 2030, Google is throwing its might into the vision and direction needed to address the climate emergency,” said Kirsten Dunlop, Chief Executive Officer at EIT Climate-KIC. “Like Google, we at EIT Climate-KIC also believe in the power of human ingenuity and that we must work together to achieve the scale of transformation required. For over a decade our mission has been to catalyse systemic change through innovation. By being part of the Impact Challenge for Climate, and by leveraging the power and richness of our community, we believe that together we can take a key step towards the exponential change needed to limit catastrophic temperature rise.” 

Through bootcamps, workshops, mentoring and coaching, and other methodologies honed through its own innovation programmes, Accelerator and Climate LaunchPad, EIT Climate-KIC will help refine ideas and support applicants through the pitching and application process. CEO Kirsten Dunlop will also join representatives from Google and other experts on the final review panel.

Ideas should be impactful, feasible and contribute to a Green Recovery while also taking issues of social justice into account. Applications are open until 6 November. If you or your organisation are interested in applying, more information is available here.
