Invest for Better EU is a new peer-led education program aiming to empower every day individuals to invest sustainably. Based upon the successful US-based programme, Invest for Better EU is being adapted for Europe with the first programmes targeting participants in Germany, France and Poland.

The programme is currently recruiting 30 circle leaders who will host peer groups of 8 to 20 participants starting from September 2023. Over a three-month program, each circle will cover five key topics, including:

  • Introduction to investing
  • Climate lens investing
  • The investment industry
  • Climate-related financial risks
  • Greenwashing

Circle leaders will receive training, materials and support to host discussions designed to educate and empower individuals to take control of their assets. Circles will learn practical investment skills that ultimately empower them to use their money to influence things they care about. The curriculum is designed for both new and existing investors that are seeking to align their financial returns with their personal values.

Each circle is a small and trusted group of peers that aim to learn together by sharing questions, experiences and tips. The small circle approach is particularly impactful for groups that face a common challenge or systemic disadvantage when investing. Circles can be based on gender, race, socio-economic background or in fact any shared factor that ties participants together and motivates them to learn.

Interested in participating?

Hosting or participating in a circle is free of charge and open to any beginner investor interested in gaining theoretical and practical knowledge about climate-aligned investments. Further information, including materials and remuneration details are available.

If you would like to host a circle please register your interest with us via this Expression of Interest Form.

CLOSED: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Sustainable Cites Mobility Challenge 2024

EIT Climate-KIC is running a Sustainable Cities Mobility Challenge for European cities to identify bold and impactful projects which seek to decarbonise transport, improve local air quality and accelerate the take-up of active, shared, collective and/or electric mobility. The call aims to support the transition to cleaner, greener, and more people-centred transport, in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal, Urban Mobility Framework, New European Bauhaus, and the EU Cities Mission.

Who can apply? Cities and towns (with a population of at least 25,000) in the EU Member States, Horizon Europe Associated Countries1 (including the United Kingdom) and Switzerland are eligible to apply.

Essential information:  Projects will be selected based on the potential for impact, learning, and replicability in other towns and cities. They should seek to make a positive difference to people and the environment in the area where they are implemented, adding to the body of knowledge and experience to shift cities more rapidly towards more sustainable transport systems.

Examples of the types of projects that could be considered for support include (but are not limited to), the following:

  • Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) or Low Emission Neighbourhoods (LENs)
  • Walking, cycling and wheeling projects.
  • Projects which support shared mobility, public transport, e-mobility and sustainable logistics
  • Parklets and greening schemes which encourage/support active travel.

Each city project selected will be granted up to 90,000 EUR (depending on the total number of proposals selected in the call. A maximum of five projects will be funded).

The grants could be used (for example) to:

  • Fund/support a city-led local project or pilot project, and/or
  • Fund cities’ work with NGOs or SMEs which are developing impactful solutions to address specific mobility challenges.

Proposals can be centred around new ideas or initiatives – or can relate to elements of existing or emerging city programmes/strategies that advance sustainable urban mobility.  Cities should aim to complete their projects by July 2025.  We invite cities to submit a short project proposal (max. 2,000 words) outlining the mobility problem or challenge they would like to tackle, and their proposed action to address this.

Call opens: Monday, 13 September 2023 CET and closes Friday, 24 November 2023 23.00 CET.  (DEADLINE EXTENDED)

The Pilot Cities Programme, Cohort 2 (2023) will run for two years (24 months) from 1 May 2024 to 30 April 2026. The decisions shall be announced on the 22 January 2024. Contracting is expected to take place between 1st February and 1 May 2024. The aim of this call is to select from Mission Cities a cohort of Pilot Cities, which will explore and test pathways to accelerated change towards 2030 climate neutrality goals — relevant to a city’s key emission domains — and to generate accelerated learning that can inform subsequent replication and scaling efforts in all other EU cities.

Only local authorities or city administrations selected to be part of EU Mission for climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030 (Mission Cities) are eligible to apply to, and receive funding under, this Call. The logic behind a joint application will need to be explained in the proposal. In the case of a group of cities applying together in one proposal, the size of the requested subgrant must follow the award amounts as stated in the Call Guidelines.

Other organisations could also participate as members of a consortium led by a Mission City. These organisations could be, for example: research institutions, universities, SMEs, NGOs, associations, citizen groups or other relevant stakeholders involved in the implementation of the climate ambitions of a Mission City participating in the consortium.

CLOSED: CALL FOR PARTNERS: Irish Agri-Food Deep Demonstration 2022/2023

EIT Climate KIC is partnering with Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) to support national climate action in the agri-food sector. Building on EIT Climate-KIC’s Deep Demonstration approach, the two-year programme will co-develop and deploy a coordinated portfolio of innovation actions and projects across the entire land-agri-food system, which will allow Irish stakeholders to test different options and build learning and intelligence about effective pathways for the agri-food sector to thrive while delivering its climate targets.

The project will run from 2022-2023 and the initial phases include activities to learn from and build Irish agri-food system stakeholder knowledge on:

      • nature-based solutions
      • carbon farming (and soil carbon)
      • dairy, meat, and other agri-food sector processors
      • environment climate measures
      • funding and finance
      • visualization/graphic design

CALL TO ACTION
The purpose of the call is to build a community of partners able to contribute to building on (and learning from) Irish stakeholder knowledge on one or more of the above topics. The total funds available under this call is €150.000. Applicants who meet the criteria will be shortlisted. This does not mean they will automatically be selected for specific pieces of work, nor will be they automatically eligible for funding under this call. Shortlisted applicants will be retained on an open list of EIT Climate-KIC Community of partners available for specific pieces of work between August 2022 and December 2023. This is the scoping and initial deployment phase of work, with the expectation of further opportunities in future in Ireland and elsewhere.

CLOSED: CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Matchmaking Innovation Event with a focus on RIS countries

EIT Climate-KIC launches Matchmaking Innovation Market call 2022 to support systemic challenge-led collaboration and development of local and impactful climate action in RIS eligible countries
This Call is aimed at overcoming one of the main problems in advancing innovation in areas of human activity that have a critical impact on greenhouse gas emissions – cities, land use, materials, and finance – and to create climate-resilient communities: replicating effort instead of strengthening what is already on the market. Therefore, we welcome impactful ideas that can partner up with EIT Climate-KIC to lead the transformative change and speed up innovation acceleration in RIS countries. Check eligible RIS countries in the Call guidelines.

CALL TO ACTION
The Call aims to facilitate an innovation matchmaking market, where members of the community can establish direct relationships between the offers of innovative products/services (Supply), and requests for solutions to challenges and problems (Demand) presented via an Expression of Interest (EOI) stage, to identify initiatives and pilots/projects. In this way, developing new project ideas will open new opportunities for future collaboration, helping to generate new business possibilities.
(see Call guidelines for further information)

Deadline
Call opening: 27th May 2022
Call closing: 27th July 2022

Eligibility : Please check the Call document HERE.

How to apply: The call is a 2-stage process: the submission of an EOI and full proposal followed by assessment and decision outcome.

This means that half of the experiment costs must be covered by your organisation. If your organisation, for example, applies with a total experiment budget of EUR 30,000, your organisation will be able to claim reimbursement of up to 15,000 EUR of eligible costs from EIT Climate KIC, or the equivalent of 50%. CLOSED: Call for proposals: Innovation Call 2022

Note: The timeline of this call has been updated!

EIT Climate-KIC is inviting proposals for new activities due to commence in 2022. Under our strategy, Transformation, in Time, we have worked to engage challenge owners across Europe to map their systems and understand the innovation gaps where greater experimentation is needed to accelerate climate action. This work has led us to define a range of innovation areas where there is an opportunity to take a new approach to breaking through on the toughest climate challenges. Through experimenting with these new approaches, we hope to learn together with you about how to trigger system change and how to achieve our mission of a net-zero, resilient and just society by 2030 – now just nine years away.

This call for proposals sets out ‘positions’ in our innovation portfolio that we are seeking to fill with new commercially viable projects. A ‘position’ refers to a space or area that sits within our wider innovation portfolio where a specific project or innovation activity may sit within. We invite our community, including any new organisations that may wish to join, to prepare proposals for up to 22 months between March 2022 and December 2023 that address one of the identified open positions. There may be multiple projects accepted in any one position, and we may not be able to fill all positions via this call.

Under this call, partial funding is available to support the development of new highly innovative commercial products or services that seek to launch on the market and achieve climate impact through entrepreneurship and commercial means. We aim to support innovators, researchers, scientists, coaches, and experts to join forces in projects that aim to bring innovative solutions to the European market. We will also support existing innovations that may seek to expand into new markets across Europe and require support to do so.

Eligibility (further detail in call guidelines)

      • The project aims to develop a product or service that has commercial potential (assessed by yes/no declaration).
      • The budget has an EIT reimbursement rate of no more than 40% in 2022 and 30% in 2023, meaning the budget is predominantly funded from other sources.
      • The budget minimums and maximums for this call have been met and at least one EIT KPI has been indicated.
      • The consortium declares willingness to agree a financial return mechanism under the shared success principle (assessed by yes/no declaration).

Final result

EIT Climate-KIC has approved one new project to take place in 2022 and 2023.

Project Name: MEDIUS

Description: MEDIUS bridges the gap between green finance and green projects to decarbonize buildings at scale. Currently only few building owners make use of green finance. The inability for green money to reach the decarbonization of the housing sector is due to barriers such as lack of data, incompatible documentation, heterogeneity of assets etc. Moreover, the two sectors are very alien to each other in terms of semantics and have a general lack of understanding of each other’s problems and needs. Our systemic solution MEDIUS addresses the fragmented communication issues between financers and project managers. Thus, MEDIUS will co-design with bankers and building owners a strategy development yielding in decarbonisation and retrofit roadmaps (DRR) and documentation approach, adapt respective tools, prototype the solution and automate work intensive process steps to enable scalability. MEDIUS connects to the EU taxonomy and initiatives (CBI, PECAF) to enable the financial sector to invest in DRR.
