Within Climate-KIC, the Greenhouse Gas Monitoring Reporting and Verification Platform is an impact oriented, dynamic community of Climate-KIC partner organisations with the aim to deliver innovation and create economic growth surrounding greenhouse gas measurement, reporting and verification solutions.
We support the climate policy process and the monitoring of policy effectiveness, and contribute to building trust in carbon markets and other instruments across the climate economy, thereby enabling stronger political commitment to mitigation at the international level.
Four concrete challenges define our priorities:
- Removal of barriers within specific sectors and project types to create value in and attract climate finance for greenhouse gas mitigation and accounting services, in particular within the forestry and agricultural sectors
- Development of cost-effective greenhouse gas emission measurement solutions to assess point and diffuse emission sources such as upstream oil and gas, shale gas extraction, carbon capture and storage, waste disposal and transport emissions
- Demonstration of place-based wall-to-wall greenhouse gas emission measurement concepts, services and decision making tools for greenhouse gas mitigation by cities, regions and countries
- Enabling behavioural change through improved greenhouse gas emission accounting and management solutions
