SmartFarming

Empowerment through knowledge

Climate-KIC Start-Up

Founding Year: 2014

Location: The Netherlands

SmartFarming offers a smartphone application to increase the income of farmers in the global south. The app gives practical training tools which can support projects run by agricultural service providers.

Good agriculture starts with good information. The rapid growth of smartphones worldwide, in rural regions in particular, creates the opportunity to deliver critical, agricultural knowledge to rural low-income smallholder farmers in order to help them increase yields in an eco-friendly way.

Access to information
The yields of farmers in the global south are only a third of those in the developed world. One of the reasons for this is a lack of access to information. The right information, absorbed and applied correctly, can increase productivity in many of these households. This has become even more urgent because of climate change which requires farmers to adapt.

Training
The SmartFarming app trains farmers to solve their problems and improve their business. Farmers feel the benefits. Automatically, the app gathers data and serves as a management and certification tool on the project level for our customers: commercial agribusinesses and not-for-profit development organizations.
