Open Utility

Peer-to-peer energy marketplace

Climate-KIC Start-Up

Founding Year: 2013

Location: UK

Open Utility is a digital pioneer in one of the last industries to be disrupted by real-time data and genuine end-user control. We are transforming the energy sector with our peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling renewable energy. Instead of trusting energy companies to act in their best interest, consumers will be able to buy their energy directly from independent renewable generators.

Our web service gives energy consumers the ability to control where their energy is sourced at a very granular level: for example users can buy some of their energy from local community-owned wind turbines or solar panels on a neighbour’s roof. The brand new user experience could transform energy markets in the same way that Amazon and eBay transformed retail markets.
