Standalone hybrid public lighting system

Climate-KIC Start-Up

Founding Year: 2014

Location: Germany

flipflower offers a hybrid public lighting system as a standalone solution using both sun and wind energy. Organic photovoltaic foil covered design modules that are similar to small sails drive an electric generator, which is supplemented by an organic storage device. The photovoltaic foil is not only light and flexible, but also highly efficient in conditions of diffuse sunlight, which is very common in Middle Europe. The environmentally friendly standalone solution does not need any external cable work and therefore saves costs in the amount of 1,000 to 1,500EUR/meter. The flipflower lighting system is suitable for large areas without existing infrastructure. If desired, it also offers additional services like charging stations for smart phones, WI-FI and an integrated bench. Target groups are real estate developers, urban planners and architects.
