Cleantech Region: Towards a clean, sustainable future

The Dutch Stedendriehoek municipalities of Apeldoorn, Brummen, Deventer, Epe, Lochem, Voorst and Zutphen are working together with entrepreneurs, educators and researchers towards a zero net energy, zero waste and sustainable society.

Cleantech creates opportunities for doing more with less. Higher productivity, more jobs and increased efficiency. With less energy use, less wasted resources and a less harmful impact on the environment. Not only does Cleantech Region invest in clean technology that contributes to a more sustainable world, it also represents the ways we can support and protect our businesses, climate, economy and innovation. It also enables us to radically reshape the ways we treat public transport and accessibility, housing and the living environment, as well as education and the job market. Cleantech can pull it all together.

Cleantech Region Ambitions

Zero net energy in 2030
Cleantech Region is committed to energy savings, harnesses residual heat and generates sustainable energy with the sun, wind, water and soil. By 2030, the Cleantech Region aims to be energy-neutral and waste-free, and any new initiative in the region is tested against their standards for achieving those aims.

Reinforcing the living environment with quality
Cleantech Region invests in housing projects and businesses in inner cities and town centres where it can make a real difference. Locations with high vacancy rates or suffering from degradation are prioritised. It balances housing and working facilities and uses cleantech measures for clean and green urban areas.

Clean traffic and transportation
The organisation aims to improve accessibility into and within the region with cleaner and more sustainable mobility options. Widening the A1 motorway, good public transport and a smart spread of regular and commuter traffic.

Stimulating innovation and cleantech business
Sustainable and net zero energy production while minimising waste is how Cleantech Region seeks to achieve better performance and higher productivity. New applications, products and revenue models in cleantech reinforce our economy. It stimulates innovation and provides support to current and new cleantech entrepreneurs.

A good relationship between education and the labour market
In order to fulfil the ambitions of the cleantech market, entrepreneurs are in need of well trained and qualified employees. That is why Cleantech Region is pushing for a sustainable labour market working in partnership with education providers. It strives to attain the lowest unemployment rate in the Netherlands.

Open for European cooperation

Cleantech Region is open to explore new opportunities to cooperate with other European cities, regions, businesses and organizations. It wants to learn from partners organisations, share experiences and best practices with other innovative cities and regions and work together in European funded projects on the common goal of a sustainable future. Cleantech Region offers a fieldlab environment to facilitate innovation and is focussed on tangible outcomes. Ambitions are translated into concrete actions so the group can learn by practice.

Cleantech Region is member of the European networks ERRIN, ACR + and Climate KIC and uses these networks to exchange ideas, find new partners and start projects across Europe.
