The results of the Climate KIC Nordic Venture Competition are in!
The finals of the Nordic Venture Competition, held at Urban Mill in Helsinki on 28 September 2015, was a close run thing this year with six outstanding companies presenting. Start-ups Repack from Finland and Desert Control from Norway were announced as winners.
After long deliberation the jury of experts including Petri Allekotte (Business Engagement Manager, Aalto University), Richard von Kaufmann (Head of Social, Founding Partner, Zipipop Freud) and Santtu Hulkkonen (Executive Vice President, SITRA, Solved Cleantech Company) chose RePack from Finland for their highly innovative business model for marketing their reusable packaging system and Desert Control from Norway, who has a really good story for tackling climate change by cultivating sandy soil into fertile soil in a very short time. Each of them came away with 20,000 Euros which will no doubt give a boost to their business ventures.
Jakob Steen Jensen, Entrepreneurship Lead at Climate-KIC Nordic was impressed by the general high level of the Nordic finals: “Congratulations to the winners, and a very big thank you to the four other companies for also delivering consistent high-class pitching of their ideas. Climate-KIC Nordic will continue supporting you all and wishes you success with your brilliant ideas”.
RePack sees the award as an important step forward, as their CEO Jonne Hellgren said “We are extremely happy and proud to win as it was one of the most challenging startup competitions in the cleantech area. The competition was tough so our team is very happy”.
On their way the to European Finals
Both RePack and Desert Control can now look forward to presenting at the European finals which will be held at the Innovation Festival on 28-30 October in Birmingham where they will also be in fierce competition with other great ideas from around Europe.
