Live stream: Climate-KIC hosts Open Day event during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels
Climate-KIC is hosting an Open Day event, during this year’s European Week of Regions and Cities in their Brussels offices today (Tuesday 7 October). The discussion will be live streamed between 13:40 – 17:00 CET.
The Climate-KIC Open Days event in Brussels, Regional Innovation For Green Growth, will bring together speakers from across Europe to discuss how to “Adapt, Advance, Accelerate: Regional Roadmapping for Low Carbon Green Growth”.
Cities and regions across Europe are finalising their plans for investing in low-carbon innovation from now until 2020. This event will provide snapshot of how particular cities and regions are setting out these road maps.
Climate-KIC will bring together regional and local actors with experts to discuss the Regional Innovation and Implementation model and the Regional Innovation Scheme developed by Climate-KIC, supported by the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT).
The event will be opened by Lower Silesia Regional Council Chair, Barbara Zdrojewska and the key note speaker for the event is Sir Albert Bore of Birmingham City Council who will set the tone for the panels’ discussions.
Jon Bloomfield, Climate-KIC’s Making Transitions Happen Platform Coordinator, will take part in the panel discussion – Making Transitions to Low Carbon Economy Happen at regional & local level. He will be setting the scene for the speakers, Alfonso Bataller, Mayor of City of Castellon, Spain, and Giovanni Fini, Head of Environmental Quality unit of the Municipality of Bologna, Italy.
Other debates include discussing the Regional Innovation and Implementation model & Regional Innovation Scheme, and the alignment with Regional Smart Specialization (RIS3) & Structural Funds. Adrian Healy, project coordinator of SmartSpect FP7, will set the scene whilst Ilona Szarapo, Head of Interregional Co-operation Unit, Lower Silesia Institute for Regional Development, and Mira Jarkko, Expert on Environmental Affairs – City of Helsinki, will present their regional and city approach to the topic.
The debates will be chaired by Mathea Fammels, Head of Unit (Acting) on Communications and Policy from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, who will facilitate the discussions brought by the panelists and highlight key messages from the EIT perspective.
Mathieu Fichter, team leader for Sustainable Growth from DG Region, European Commission, will bring the final remarks before closing the event.
More than a hundred experts from EU Regions and Cities, together with other relevant organisations are expected to attend the event today facilitated by EIT and Climate-KIC. One important reason why you should not miss this debate will be the showcase of experiences accelerating the transition to a low carbon economy together with synergies between H2020 and Structural Funds with concrete scenarios developed in Climate-KIC thanks to the implementation of the Regional Innovation and Implementation model and the Regional Innovation Scheme aligning with the RIS3 and Operational programmes in some regions.
