The office of Climate-KIC Germany is centrally located in Berlin within an innovative low-carbon campus (European Energy Forum EUREF), which hosts a variety of clean-energy related companies and organisations, and forms the largest climate-innovation campus in the nation’s capital.

Climate-KIC Germany offers education, greenhouse, business-centre and dialogue activities within this 280 m2 office. Local synergies in Berlin and Brandenburg include EUREF-sited clean-tech businesses and organisations; the Technische Universität Berlin campus, ICT-Labs KIC, Albert-Einstein Campus, the Solarvalley cluster, a network of existing incubators and greenhouses, and close proximity to a wide variety of actors in the climate-policy community. 

  • Key themes: adaptive agriculture, e-mobility, extreme events, geothermal energy, low-carbon cities, modelling, policy/technology roadmapping, solar energy, water, zero-carbon production.  
  • Integrated assessment and test bed: Berlin is a key climate-knowledge cluster (policy-science-economics-technology-markets) and an ideal test bed for low-carbon implementation
  • Staff: As Director, Hans-Jürgen Cramer, focuses primarily on fundraising and strategic issues. Aaron Best, Deputy Director, manages the Centre’s daily operations. 
  • Legal structure: PIK acts as the interim legal entity.
