Climate-KIC offers a special pre-incubation programme, the Greenhouse, to budding entrepreneurs who have an idea in the context of climate change and the motivation to make it happen in the future – but are not fully ready yet. Here you can see this year’s Greenhouse Groups from the Nordics, divided by the universities they are based at.
Carbonis is a digital innovation driving towards low carbon future, a fun and social way to save our environment while educating people about their responsibilities towards the environment.
Carbonis presents an e-service capturing all material and energy flows of our daily lives in a fun and social manner. It is guiding people en masse to ensure sustainability in their lifestyle.
Our aims as part of the Greenhouse program are to develop the prototype of the Carbonis app and test it with early adoptors.
A wide implementation of the Carbonis app will help us to achieve low carbon cities and communities.

PikoPower is developing affordable small scale bioenergy solutions and sustainable business models for forest intensive regions in developing countries. Our mission is to implement financially sustainable proof-of-concepts for mini-grids in Asia, Africa and Latin America. We aim to provide acceptable, affordable and accessible energy to tackle energy poverty globally.
Our Greenhouse project objectives are to verify identified customer cases in Chile, Nepal and Tanzania, develop a frugal solution concept model in cooperation with a Finnish gasification technology provider, build a multidisciplinary and multinational founding team and identify impact investors to raise funding for seed round. We are simultaneously targeting technology (small-scale gasification), market (forest intensive cold climate areas) and financial (impact investment) niches. Our aim is to become a leading small-scale bioenergy solution provider in these niche markets, develop financially sustainable business models and generate multiple values to our shareholder and stakeholders. We tackle climate change by turning forest based waste into energy and empowering and employing local people to alleviate poverty.

At Sanitation Social Enterprise, we aim to build the capacities of communities to improve their own sanitation sustainably. We help our clients deliver quality dry toilets to low-income communities. In the process we produce urea for organic fertilizer.
Our concept delivers a unique dual solution in one: hygienic sanitation and cost-efficient organic fertilizer for low-income communities. The technical feasibility of our model is tested and proved as a development co-operation concept. Now we want to scale it up by developing a sustainable social enterprise. We hope that the Greenhouse Programme will help us develop a robust business model. Our climate impact comes from reducing the need for inorganic fertilizer as well as human CO2-emissions.

SmartGrow makes smart solutions for urban food production.
We offer sustainable aquaponic systems that enable people to grow local, organic food all year round practically anywhere. With these aquaponic systems we aim to bring sustainable urban gardening to the masses.
SmartGrow Solutions provides homes, restaurants, schools, elderly care centers and other facilities with aquaponic systems that produce organic vegetables and fish.
In addition to healthy and fresh food, these systems offer meaningful activities and educational possibilities.
Our systems are user-friendly and visually appealing and we offer these systems to our customers with exceptional service.
We want to participate in creating a large market around urban farming by bringing aquaponic growing techniques closer to the average person.
Ultimately we aim to increase sustainable and local food consumption which will have a positive impact on emissions related to transportation and production of food.

Chalmers University of Technology
Mimbly aims to provide accessible water recycling by developing products that break down the biggest impediment to recycling, simplicity.
The value in Mimbly’s system lies in offering an accessible product, as it reduces the consumption of water by a great amount, while also saving a considerable amount of money for the client.
The key aspect of its product is its accessibility, or in other words its ease of implementation.
More specifically, Mimbly provides hotels with a means to make their laundry system smarter, while having an immediate impact on the environment.
Currently in the form of an add on to a conventional washing machine, we would save the user money and consequently water in exchange for recycling the water in their system. Mimbly has been working since May 2016 as part of the incubation programme at Chalmers Ventures.
In the future a product that recycles the water and replaces the need for detergent in the washing machine will be attained. Just by saving 50% of the water consumption, this would translate to savings of at least 1.3 million liters of water per year.

Solcellskollen is a web service to guide homeowners through all steps prior to an investment in solar energy. The user is guided through interactive information, user-specific calculation programs, as well as a marketplace where they can be matched with local installers.
The PV market is steadily expanding, and the deployment is currently led by investors who can produce electricity for local use. Many of these actors are however not professionals, and invest in primarily small-scale PV systems. As the market continues to grow, and head into a mass market, we identify an increasing need to help these small actors along the way to an investment: to analyse the economics in site specific PV systems, to understand local legislation, as well as to find local installers. During the Greenhouse program we aim to launch a first version of the website, as well as acquire our ten first customers (PV installers in Sweden). Our long-term goal is to contribute to a mass market in residential solar energy systems, in Sweden and beyond.

The project revolves around creating a sustainable closed loop system for agriculture farming. The technology used is Hydroponic Farming in different variations. The project goal is to create a commercially viable prototype for the applicable market.
Hydra Farms are excited to be part of the Greenhouse Programme, and are planning to utilize this opportunity to the fullest. Through the assistance and network capabilities the programme brings, Hydra Farms will be able to create and hopefully patent a viable product that will be available to the market. With a high degree of entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for reducing the bad mark human kind is leaving on earth, the Hydra Farms team will work its hardest to achieve these goals. Through innovation & business knowledge Hydra Farms believes they are able to bring more environmentally friendly, fresh, and nutritional fodder to animals around the world, reducing the pollution and excess emissions that are inherently bound to the business of efficiently growing crops.

SunKeep has developed a fundamentally new way to absorb and long-term store solar energy, and convert it into heat on demand. SunKeep makes the heat of the sun accessible when & where it is needed, and contributes to a fossil free society.
Energy storage solutions play an important role in the efficient use of renewable energy and the transition to a renewable energy system. Thermal energy storage becomes an issue of crucial importance when replacing systems that rely on fossil fuels. SunKeep is addressing this problem through the development and commercialization of a technology that enables efficient storing the heat from the sun for months without losses, bridging the gap of supply and demand of our greatest energy source. The technology is developed through many years of research at Chalmers University, carried out by one of the most prominent research teams in the world when it comes to synthetic chemistry.
This versatile technology has a wide range of application areas, and SunKeep is looking to accelerate its market validation efforts through the Greenhouse Program. While continuing to perform technology development in parallel, SunKeep’s aim is to enable solar heating to become a more reliable source of heat, to replace fossil fuels and thereby decrease global warming.

A new reflective display technology capable of displaying a full range of color. The display has 50 times better energy consumption than conventional LCD displays, and 5 times better than E-ink (the closest competing technology). It is also thinner than a hair and bendable.
Multiple years of nanotechnology research at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg has led up to a collaboration between business developers and technology researchers, aiming to set a new sustainable standard for displays. Our technology consumes 50 times less energy compared to backlit LCD displays, the most common display technology today, by reflecting the ambient light instead of emitting additional light. There are reflective displays on the market today such as the Kindle tablet based on E-ink technology. Our major differentiator is that we provide full range color with 5 times less energy consumption, which is unseen on the market today. We are currently in the process of patenting the technology, allowing us to license out the technology to display manufacturers in various fields.

weAdventure is an online platform that serves as a marketplace connecting local adventure providers with outdoor enthusiasts, with a focus on ethical and environmental practices.
Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a more environmentally and socially sustainable tourism industry. Recently, the trend for online platforms has been an extractive one in which environmental concerns are partially addressed, if at all. We believe in an alternative path for technological solutions in the adventure tourism industry. Our main objectives for this program are to reach and on-board environmentally sustainable companies into our platform. We hope that Climate KIC will help guide us towards the right direction, working with the best people in the industry.

Connect 2 Colombia’s vision is to provide green energy and clean water to the people of Colombia. We are located both in Sweden and Colombia and want to connect investors with the projects for a sustainable development in poor areas as well as introducing Swedish (or European) inventions to the Colombian market.
The initial idea of starting Connect 2 Colombia was to develop big scale solar energy projects since they don’t exist in Colombia yet. Not even the regulations about solar energy laws are totally set, and therefore we decided to start in another direction; clean water. More than 3 million people are in need of clean water in Colombia. Today Connect 2 Colombia has the representation of SOLVATTEN in Colombia and we are a team of 6 working together to market this amazing product. By introducing SOLVATTEN we hope to create good relations and build a big network so that we can start the solar energy plan as soon as possible.

‘Eat Your Straw’ is edible, zero-waste straw made of edible starch assembled to fight the environmental effects of plastic straws. It will be a commercial business with strong social ideals. It can be fortified with specific vitamins or minerals, enabling us to target populations lacking those nutrients.
More than 500 millions straws are used everyday in the United States alone, and the picture across the globe is only alarming. Being small and insignificant looking products, plastic straws are polluting the landfills and oceans without us realizing its effect. Our product is a zero-waste edible alternative to plastic straws. Under the guidance of the Greenhouse, our aim is to assemble a product prototype and finalize of the formulation of the final edible straw. Consumer, supplier and market research will be conducted to ensure desirability, viability and feasibility of the large-scale production of the product.

GePant are formulating a solution to how many companies in Sweden are focusing their CSR work outside Sweden’s border, with companies that have a poor waste management procedures. We have a solution to this – by offering LSR (Local Social Responsibility) by collection and donation of the company´s bottles and cans for refund to local non-profit organisations. Donation of a pledge to financially dependent organisations will provide the possibility to keep the organisation running, and at the same time, save important resources.
Since 2011 GePant have offered individuals in Sweden the opportunity to donate their bottles and cans for refund to local non-profit organisations. Now, we would like to develop our platform and service to give companies the opportunity to invest in LSR. Today, there is no similar platform, website or service that offers a digital solution to increase recycling of plastic bottles and aluminium cans, but also, at the same time give the economic benefit from resources savings to financially dependent organisations. We at GePant aim to provide a benefit for all users in our system: for individuals to save time by not going through the whole pledge process, for companies to have an opportunity to make a local investment, for non-profits to receive the necessary financial support, and last but not least, for the environment by saving valuable resources.

LABEL will facilitate stores in the biggest cities in Norway where people can both buy and sell their high quality secondhand clothes. Clothes brought to the store can be exchanged for cash, or for “trading cash” that can be used in store. Currently, there is no such store in Norway
A curated selection of items will be put for sale on our web store to quickly achieve national distribution. Some years ahead, we want to create a digital marketplace that combines efficiency and a concise high quality-standard., and no such digital marketplace currently exists in Europe.
During the Greenhouse we want make sure our business model is solid and sustainable. We want to build a future branding strategy. Also, we hope to target missing competences, and make a plan for how to both recruit co-workers and to establish partnerships. Last, but not least, we hope to build a bigger network that will be helpful for the future.
LABEL will be more just a store; LABEL will affect attitudes.
In a long term perspective, LABEL has a vision of changing the way people consume clothes.

CTT (Carbon Track and Trace) provides automated systems for greenhouse gas monitoring and reporting to cities. Through CTT a city is able to directly see the impact of their GHG reduction strategies. This means that they will secure funding for both current and future greener solutions, and most importantly, actually reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
CTT differs from traditional methods of greenhouse gas monitoring and reporting because it gives cities local insight down to street and building level. Because of this insight, cities can facilitate pilot projects at smaller scales, which have smaller economic risks than before. The resources spent on greenhouse gas emissions reporting is significantly lowered because the process is automated. As a part of Greenhouse CTT will conduct a detailed market survey with the intention of better understanding how cities are currently spending their resources on this process, the amount of resources that go into it, and also how they can best make use of different data sources. Conducting such a market survey will also allow us to meet with potential customers and complete our business plan.

We are automating vegetable production in vertical farming systems like aquaponics and hydroponics, eliminating the need for repetitive menial labor.
By combining the newest technology from the rapidly developing fields of robotics, sensors and machine learning, our goal is to develop a streamlined and scalable system for planting and harvesting vegetables in vertical farming systems, also including automatic control of important parameters like nutrient levels, pH and humidity. One day, fresh and locally produced organic vegetables could go straight from a robot’s hand and onto your dinner plate.

The Technical University of Denmark (DTU)
Nordic Moss is a service providing green-tech start up targeting corporates. It covers office buildings with moss paint, making them more sustainable and makes their CSR policy visible.
Through a high-quality product and outstanding service, our start-up offers not only an innovative way of green branding, but the moss paint can act as an insulation layer. It means it can cut down electricity bills therefore reducing carbon footprints, and clears the air by absorbing harmful particulars at the same time.
The Greenhouse program makes Nordic Moss able to produce the first prototypes and products. The programme makes it possible to meet with potential future clients and break into the market.

Nowa offers solid state and compact shower gel, shampoo and conditioner bars. Our product is wave-shaped and breakable into single use units in order to minimize traveller’s space in their baggage. With Nowa, there is no problem with liquid restrictions (imposed by the airlines) or liquid leakages in the luggage.
Our product notably tackles oil depletion due to its non-plastic and limited packaging, it also addresses climate change due to it’s zero waste properties and low carbon designed life cycle. A minimal climate impact of 5789 tons of CO2eq will be made in just the fifth year of Nowa’s activity. With the Greenhouse program we would have the chance to benefit from experienced people, people with knowledge about business development and entrepreneurship, with creating start-ups and all the difficulties that come along.
Our main goal during greenhouse will be to validate our business plan and develop a prototype.

PurCity is providing a novel and brilliant type of building façade that naturally sucks in the polluted air and absorbs the majority of smog i.e. NOx, CO2, etc. using nanotechnology. The product called GapS is a more sustainable substitute for composite panels, which are commonly used in construction of buildings, and includes a filter that improves air quality through absorption of pollutants.
PurCity developed a system that uses rain water to clean the filters (GapS) and then stores it for reuse in flushing toilets, gardening, etc., as well as for cleaning the GapS filters in the case of long term dry periods.
PurCity’s main marketing focus is the Business to Government (B2G) and Business to Business (B2B) markets including architectural and construction companies while it can be used either in construction of new buildings or renovation of pre-existing ones.
After having constructed a couple of prototypes, the product design has now been finalised. The scientific Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) analyses are in process through Denmark’s Technical University (DTU), Department of Civil Engineering and under Prof. Jianhua Fan’s supervision. GapS will be approved and ready to go to market within the next three months.
PurCity is a unique company because of its novelty; GapS does not occupy extra space in the buildings in which it is implemented. It can be installed in an easy and modular way, requires no maintenance, saves money by adding extra insulation to the building, it is fire retardant and will be priced reasonably.
From an environmental point of view, PurCity sees it as its duty to produce environmentally friendly products that is recyclable to help change the world into a better place.

With the project Black to Green, Refarmed is prototyping a solution for building-integrated aqua- and agriculture. The project is situated on a public roof terrace in Denmark’s largest shopping center Field’s Copenhagen. Surplus heat, rainwater, bio and packaging waste is recirculated into a year- round production of fish, herbs and salad leaves which will be sold in house.
Our vision is to rethink the way we produce and consume food. Besides operating on a local level, this project should point out sustainable alternatives to the existing ways of producing, distributing and consuming food. In the future our solutions will be offered to large supermarkets. Besides having sufficient surplus energy and sales channels, they also offer a platform for raising awareness among different segments of society about the ways products are produced and consumed. We aim to be able to offer people ways to act sustainably.

Rainflower is a smart stormwater collector for the resilient cities of tomorrow.
When inactive, the stormwater collector is stored underground leaving the area above to be used as an urban space. When active, the stormwater collector detains rainwater and provides shelter to people.
Detained water by the collector can later be discharged into the sewage system, infiltrated into the ground, or reused for residential or recreational purposes.
