The Emilia-Romagna region is located in the North-East of Italy and is considered one of the most advanced regions in Europe. With a population of approximately 4.4 million inhabitants, the region is an important commercial hub well linked to other Italian and European cities. Bologna is the regional city capital with a population of around 1 million in its metropolitan area.
The region is heavily involved in the achievement of the EU climate change mitigation targets through its Climate Plan. The Plan focuses specifically on developing effective environmental policies and supporting the industrial sector in the application of the best practices in terms of greenhouse gas emissions reduction.
